Enrichment Programs

A lot more goes on inside the classroom than reading, writing, and arithmetic. At MES we offer a variety of programs that encourage your child to push harder for the fun of it, provide extra support to keep on track, discover talents within themselves, and encourage positive behavior habits. Look over the following list and see for yourself the great options that are available. It is important that you check the calendar and watch for any news on the website as well as the fliers that we send home with your child describing the details for participating in these wonderful programs.

Accelerated Reader Program

Accelerated Reader is a software tool that assesses a student's reading level, suggests titles of books at that level, and then evaluates whether a student has comprehended the book by asking a series of questions. The program provides information to students regarding reading rates, amount of reading, and other factors related to reading. Our panthers love being able read the perfect level of books for them and then to use the computer to test and receive immediate feedback. This is the heart of the weekly Family Reading program.

Young Rembrandts Art Classes

Do you have a budding artist at home? Young Rembrandts incorporates Montessori’s philosophies into step-by-step and skill-based lessons in much the same way that students are taught math, science, and other regular school-time classes. The purpose is to help children grow in their overall learning skills as well as increase their knowledge of art history, vocabulary, and their personal artistic ability.

Student Council

Are you interested in seeing your 4th or 5th grade child develop valuable leadership skills? If so, your 4th or 5th grader will have the opportunity to apply to be a member of Student Council. Student Council helps the school and community in a variety of ways through Spirit Days, Fall Festival, Red Ribbon Week, Campus Clean-Up, Food Drives, and more! When it is time to apply, 4th and 5th grade students will be sent home with a flier outlining the application process.

English Language Learners

The teachers at MES are not only highly qualified professionals, but they have worked diligently to become certified in English instruction. The English Language Learners in our school benefit from their expertise and receive additional support as needed. Please view our district website for more information about this program.
